Idia College Old Girls Association, North America (ICOGA NA)
was Inaugurated in Washington, DC on Saturday, October 12, 2013
Alumni of Idia College Benin City from all over the United States gathered at the Nigerian Embassy in the Nation’s Capital to launch the ICOGA North America. ICOGA DC, MD, VA Chapter hosted the event. Queen Idia College, Benin City, Nigeria was a foremost Girls Boarding Secondary School that was founded in January 1973 by the then Military State Governor of Midwest State, Dr. S.O. Ogbemudia. This notable secondary school has graduated a wide array of now Professionals in all works of life, Doctors, Lawyers, Engineers, Accountants, Financial Professionals, Bank CEOs and MDs, High Court Judges, Registered Nurses, Women in the U.S. Military Corps, Heads of Schools, Business Tycoons, Architects, Attorneys, IT Professionals, Technology Experts, Diplomats, Pastors, etc.
Alumni from all over the United States attended this event, many were meeting again for the 1st time in over 30 years.
ICOGA NA was officially launched by the Founding President of ICOGA NA, Queen Pastor Omo Ghandi-Olaoye, other chapters also represented included DC, MD, VA (DMV), Boston, New Jersey and Atlanta. The roast was proposed by Queen Pastor Omo Ghandi-Olaoye and all present unanimously and joyously raised their wine glasses in unison to toast their beloved Alma Mater.
The North America (NA) National is the third National Office to join the Idia College Old Girls Association Worldwide. Other National Offices are in Nigeria and London (UK) respectively. The Launch/Dinner was also a Business Meeting to celebrate the first Official ICOGA NA Alumni gathering and for the association to define the goals and objectives of the Association. It was a very successful event with laughter echoing all over the room as they took a ride down memory lane.
With this successful launching of ICOGA NA, the goal was to bring Idia College Old Girls/Alumni together annually with Business Meetings, Social and Cultural Gatherings and Networking opportunities. It was decided that the next annual event will be held at Boston and hosted by the Boston Chapter.
